Default Australia/Oceania Region?

If you Check out the new create-a-account screen you can select Australia/Oceania. Now how do I change my current accounts region to that?

Odd that this appears the update after I ask Gaile Gray about showing your guilds nationality and mentioning specifically Australia/Oceania.

Do you guys think theres a new district?

Anyone have a 14 day trial key so I can check it out? and see what districts you come into?

It is indeed great news!

You can't change your region to it just yet but we predict it won't be too long.

There's an on-going discussion about it over on www.anzgw.com, where no doubt any information will be posted the second it is available.

I created a 10-hour trial account to see, and it booted me over to the American district.

Great, I just am dying to be put in the same category with all the Australian scrubs that play GW.

Geeze Sekkira, you don't have to switch to it when it comes out. Plus Australia has some pretty damn good players anyway. Hell proportionally their at least as good if not better then America. But the numbers mean most of the good players are spread over a number of guilds.

No need to be a dick though, if you are so worried about it just don't change.

It sticks you in the American districts so I assume its just an image thing for tombs and GvG

And Clusmas I am Rhys Aronson on ANZGW.

Edit:
Aeoth brought up a good point in IRC though. It could do nothing of the sort but just be to avoid confusion for people from this area of the world. Like being a mask for the American Districts.

Europe servers must suck. ALl these different kinds of languages spamming in LA, I can just imagine. Australia is cool, though. I hope they get their own districts. Australia and New Zealand, although New Zealanders complain they're completely different

Actually, for the information of everyone. The Australia/Oceania region you now see have been there since Prophecies' beta/preview. A month after the final release of GW:P, they set it up to show only to countries whose IP Addresses are near the Australia/Oceania region, thus the existence of it disappeared from the GW Players' memories.

Secondly, it doesn't exist per se. Some of us here in Asia-Pacific created our accounts in that region but instead appeared in the NA region. So to our understanding, that region do not exist "yet". It might be there waiting for an influx of Aus/Oceania players, the servers might be already in Australia just waiting to be switched on.

We're not sure, but a new region will open up to accounts being accessed based on their IP Addresses, except for Europe and NA which are considered "international". A relative of mine who went to Hong Kong was able to switched to GW-Taiwan region, when he went back here, the Taiwan region disappeared from the selection ^_^

Until ANet/NCsoft announced the availability of the Aus/Oceania region, it's only an empty selection in the region screen

I think the names kinda silly, why not just call it Pacific or just Oceania. But what I can say that is positive is itd be good for all the people in that region (people from singapore, Malasia etc to). No more 250-300pings to play on the closest servers.

Weird, it wasn't there when I created my account, and I created it while on a bigpond telstra cable connection which is an aussie IP. Are you sure about Oceania Being there before?

Yeah we found out you get dumped in the Americas regions, we were mostly hoping we could select it and have Australia/Oceania appear while playing GvG and tombs. A bit of National Pride and all that. Having some locally based servers for the American districts would be nice too.

Oh my, the idea of playing with other Australian again... The first 2 guilds I joined were Aussie guilds and the average age of the players was below 16. Being a "mature age" player relative to the rest of the GW community places me in a position which predisposes me to hate the majority of the GW population due to the average maturity level. As much as I would love to go and win favour for Oceania if we were ever given our own server (which I believe Anet has said is unlikely) then I'm not sure I wouldn't head back to Europe fairly quickly to enjoy the maturity of all my British (among other nationalities) friends who are my age and even older.

Firstly being a fairly multicultural society in Australia, MOST of us have been raised on the idea that not everyone speaks (or should speak) English. IMHO Americans and a lot of Australians speak English worse than foreigners who speak English and yet may of these "native" speakers seem to think it is their RIGHT to take the mickey out of them.
I like seeing other languages being spoken in GW, being multi-lingual myself I'm sure helps, however I've noticed that most people only find other languages annoying because they can't understand them and think, that because of that, these foreign speakers must be taking the mickey out of them. This isn't the case, but if you don't believe me take the time to learn one or two other foreign languages and find out for yourselves.

EDIT: Oh and I'm sure Americans would take offense if I called them Canadians and vice-versa. There IS a difference between Australia and New Zealand, they wear black and white, we wear green and gold.

Odd I am in what is probably the largest Tasman guild and the majority of players are 17+, with many of the active ones 30+. I think most people from Oceania would like to stay in the American/european districts, but cosmetically show up as being from Oceania. Additionall this could indicate some servers being set up locally to give us a better connection whilst playing. Currently if you create a character in Australia/Oceania you show up in American Districts and can still switch to European districts.

Huh?
NZers ARE completely different.
The main differences are:
-NZ Has better beer (VB sucks, Tasmanian beer is OK though)
-NZ doesn't have a twangy sounding "E" like AU does
-NZ is better at Rugby
-NZ actually has hills
-NZ has Peter Jackson, AU has Russell Crowe (although Rus reckons he grew up in NZ, but don't belive him).
-AU does have Nicole Kidman, but she's overrated (at least according to Tom Cruise).
-NZ has won more international Yacht races than AU (AU's boats usually sink)

Anyway, I predict Oceania will be the dominant force in HA. Look out.

Yup it was there since. First saw it during BWE/Pre-Order. I chose it (as well as other members of our guild who BWE/Pre-Order) coz it's the nearest server from our location, but sadly we were thrown in NAmerica.

After creating our accounts, we can only choose Korea and North America. A few weeks later, Korea disappeared. A few months later, Europe went live.

And then Gaile was seen saying that Australia/New Zealand do not need a region of their own, someone took a screenshot, I don't have the link right now tho, I think I posted the screenshot over in ANZ website. ^^

My personaly thought is that they either
[1] originally planned to have an AU/Oceania region to get WoW-Aus/Oceania players since WoW do not provide one (during that time)
or
[2] the servers are there just waiting to be turned on, if and only if there will be enough CCU for the region. Sadly if "Oceania" there won't be enough, just like in WoW.

ANet and Blizz should instead call is "Asia-Pacific-Oceania" just like UO (before UO split the Asia-Pacific-Oceania into 5 regions because CCU is way way higher then). I mean, how many players will come from Oceania compared to South-East Asia Just a tip/hint for ANet Guam-Saipan players are mostly members of South-East Asian guilds (as well as Polish players).
